Market halls in Le Rheu

On Josephine Baker Square in the French city of Le Rheu, not far from Rennes in the Brittany region, stands a tall and imposing hall covered with SunStyle solar tiles. The tiles are discreet and perfectly integrated into the building’s architecture and the town’s urban fabric. Located in the heart of the city, the hall is intended to be a true hub for sharing and exchange among the city’s residents, making it an essential part of civic life. The addition of solar tiles to the roof thus combines practicality with aesthetics.

The 213 tiles installed on the 190 m² roof of the hall have a capacity of 11 kWp. They supply the city with decarbonized electricity, helping the region meet its energy transition targets. Moreover, the tiles are French CSTB certified, demonstrating highly advanced technology. They have been tested to withstand all climatic conditions encountered in mainland France—including heavy rain, hail, and wind—and meet the highest safety standards, particularly in terms of fire risk.

While this is the first and only project of its kind in the region, additional SunStyle projects are already planned to replicate this model. This serves as proof that this initial experiment was a success, and SunStyle is proud to have contributed to a project with strong social value, fostering greater cohesion and comfort within the community, particularly for public buildings.
